Warning: Contains potential spoilers for Game of ThronesSeason 8.

Yes,Sedan Sex (2018) okay, it's only a 40-second teaser with no actual Season 8 footage. But frankly, the day I can't obsess over a 40-second teaser with no actual Season 8 footage is the day I no longer call myself a Game of Thronesfan.

The teaser, which dropped on Wednesday evening, shows ice and fire spreading across a map. As both spread towards the centre, miniature statues representing various Houses -- wolf/Stark; dragon/Targaryen; lion/Lannister -- are engulfed.

As it was pointed out on Twitter and Reddit, though, they weren't all engulfed by the same thing.

There are a lot of interesting points in that tweet, and a lot of room for speculation in the teaser. One thing that seems very deliberate, though, are those close-up shots of the statues. First the wolf is engulfed in ice; then the dragon is engulfed in ice; then, finally, the lion is swept in fire.

So what, exactly, does this mean?

A simple guess would be that the ice and fire represent the things that will ultimately destroy, or at least badly damage, the houses in question -- so white walkers for the Starks and the Targaryens, and fire -- possibly wildfire -- for the Lannisters.

If we're digging even deeper, it's also possible the order those three things are engulfed in could provide some foreshadowing. The Stark stronghold of Winterfell falling foul to the invading walkers seems in line with the big battle we believe will be taking place in the first half of the season, for instance. The dragon freezing could represent one of Daenerys' beasts falling foul to the Night King further down the line, meanwhile, and it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine the flaming lion being symbolic for Cersei ultimately bringing about her own fiery downfall.

Or it could all be a massive red herring, deliberately designed to ignite as much internet speculation as possible.

Guess we'll have to wait for April to find out.
